In 2020, PCAP could not meet incarcerated artists in person for the first time in 25 years. As an adaptation to the pandemic, PCAP invited artists incarcerated in Michigan state prisons to create small-scale artwork and send their entries to PCAP by mail. The curators conceived of this idea because it would be possible within the constraints of the pandemic and because they saw working that within those constraints would provide an opportunity to try some new artistically and curatorially. The only requirement for artists was that submissions measure 4 inches by 6 inches or smaller. 

In a year when we have all be confined in myriad ways, Miniatures 2021: Resisting the Confines of Quarantine offers insight into the possibilities of challenging, resisting, and sometimes flourising within confinement. The exhibit includes 141 artworks, featuring a diversity of both artists and artistic choices.
