Artwork Galleries

The themes on the following pages emerged from the collected body of artwork, over a two day meeting in February. Curators, students, formerly incarcerated artists, faculty,  and staff convened in a large conference room surrounded by all of the art. We each took several hours to immerse ourselves in the artwork, allowing themes to gradually emerge. We shared our observations and collaboratively distilled the prevailing themes, by grouping and moving the artwork to notice new relationships among art pieces. As a perceptive student observed, this process and the outcome is inherently collaborative; it's not feasible for a single individual to engage with this body of artwork in this way.
