Janie Paul is an artist and the co-founder and senior curator of the Annual Exhibition of Art by Michigan Prisoners. She is a Professor Emerita  at the Stamps School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan. Her teaching career included studio art courses, courses that brought students to prison to facilitate art workshops, and courses that brought students to Detroit to work with high school students through the Detroit Connections program. During her career she was a recipient of the University Diversity Award and an Arthur F. Thurnau Professorship. Her keynote address, delivered on March 18, 2021, was drawn from her forthcoming book that reflects on twenty-five years of with artists in Michigan prisons.
