Animals and Wildlife
Wild animals represent freedom and authenticity: the flight of birds, the strength of large cats, the beauty of deer in the woods. The pure instincts of animals are appealing and transport the artists and the viewer far from the terrible moral predicaments of human beings. Images of animals are not hard to come by in prison. The texture of fur, feathers and hides provides ample opportunities for detailed shading, gradations in tone, and depth of color that are satisfying in all media.
